Soft tissue damage
Soft tissue damage or soft tissue injury is damage to muscles, ligaments and tendons throughout the body. Strains, sprains and contusions are all common soft tissue injuries.
A strain is damage to the muscle or tendon due to repetitive use, over work or over stretching. A sprain generally relates to ligament damage caused by the ligament being twisted or pulled.
Sprains often happen to ankles, knees and shoulders when they are moved beyond their usual range of movement. A contusion can also be described as a bruise and is common in impact injuries.
The level of damage to soft tissue and the potential symptoms will depend on the type and severity of the trauma caused by the accident.
Treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries will depend on the severity and position of the injury.
